What is Behavioral Health?
The Behavioral Health Case Management Program is offered to Preferred Care members who might benefit from having help with follow-up care for mental health or drug and alcohol problems. This service is free, it is not treatment, and it is conducted primarily by telephone. A psychiatric hospitalization or other serious behavioral health situation may qualify a member for the program.
Mental health or substance abuse problems may impact many areas of a person’s life if left untreated. As part of Preferred Care’s, “living well” philosophy, we strive to assist our members in receiving appropriate services to maintain continuing good health.
How can we help?
The Behavioral Health Team at Preferred Care includes experienced, licensed clinicians who help members learn more about services available to them that are most appropriate to their particular mental health or chemical dependency problems. We provide the names and phone numbers of a variety of Behavioral Health Specialists from which a member can choose when they are in need of a mental health care provider.
Case managers are available to work with members on developing a personalized plan to ensure that they get the help that they need. Case managers also help members follow through on the plan: they are available to help patients keep appointments; support them in asking questions of a doctor or therapist; and assist in finding support services. Members also receive educational materials about medical or behavioral health from their case manager, as appropriate.
