How to Enroll in Medicare Part D

It is important that you join a Medicare prescription drug plan when you are first eligible. Medicare prescription drug coverage will protect you from high out-of-pocket costs.


If you have not signed up for the Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage but are interested in doing so, your next opportunity to join will be Nov. 15 – Dec. 31, 2006. There will be yearly enrollment periods from then on. 

Remember, joining is voluntary.  But if you don’t join when you are first eligible, your monthly premium MAY be higher when you do join, because there’s an added fee for enrolling late.

For some Medicare beneficiaries who missed the May 15, 2006 enrollment deadline, there may still be an opportunity to enroll in
Part D.
